Which market, what day?

You must go to a market during your stay. There's something very characterful about European markets and the ones in Puglia are really very good. Because of their relationship with food, the Puglian's are very traditional with the way they source their ingredients, they're known for it. You can expect to see stalls upon stalls of nuts, olives, fruit, vegetables and cheese and fish. You can also expect to find bags, shoes, belts and jewellery - try to take an empty suitcase!

The markets usually take place from around 8am to 12:30ish and vary in size depending on where they're being hosted, but the stalls pretty much remain the same. Please note that the fruit and vegetables are ridiculously cheap. Parking is always difficult so persevere or go early.

Mondays - Cisternino
Tuesdays - Monopoli, Noci
Wednesdays - Putignano, Martina Franca
Thursdays - Alberobello
Fridays - Conversano, Locoratondo, Fasano
Saturdays - Castellana Grotte, Ostuni

If you only have one day to go to the market we would suggest you go to Monopoli. It's larger than Castellana Grotte and you can spend the morning there and go to the beach in the afternoon.

To reach it go straight down the Monopoli Road from Castellana – at Monopoli turn left at large roundabout towards Bari then at the second roundabout turn right – through the underpass and keep going and you will eventually hit the market (hopefully not literally).

Trullo Carlotta is lovely family-owned villa in Castellana Grotte, Puglia. To find out more about Trullo Carlotta including key info, features and facilities and prices please visit our website www.trullocarlotta.com.
